How to use a hot foil stamping machine

Time: 2025.03.28 Posted By: Peter

Foil stamping is a popular technique used to add a decorative and professional touch to a variety of materials. Whether you're working on paper products, leather, or plastic, a hot stamping machine can help you achieve stunning results. The main steps are preparing the material, installing the foil, adjusting the machine settings, positioning the workpiece, doing a test run, starting the stamping, and finally finishing and cleaning up. In this article, we'll walk you through the step-by-step process of using a hot stamping machine.

Prepare materials: Gather the items to be stamped, such as paper, cardboard, or plastic products, and select the appropriate hot stamping foil according to the material and design requirements.

Install the foil: Open the foil roll holder on the hot foil stamping machine and install the hot stamping foil roll. Make sure the foil is properly tensioned and threaded through the guiding rollers according to the machine's instructions.

Adjust the machine settings:

  • Temperature: Set the temperature of the stamping head according to the type of material and foil. Generally, the temperature range is between 100 - 200 °C. For example, when stamping on paper, a temperature of about 120 - 150 °C is usually appropriate.

  • Pressure: Adjust the pressure of the stamping head to ensure that the foil adheres firmly to the material. The pressure needs to be adjusted according to the thickness and hardness of the material. Usually, the pressure is in the range of 0.5 - 2 MPa.

  • Speed: Set the running speed of the machine. The speed is generally between 10 - 50 meters per minute. For simple patterns and thin materials, a faster speed can be used; for complex patterns and thick materials, a slower speed is required.

Position the workpiece: Place the item to be stamped on the stamping platform and position it accurately. Some machines may have positioning fixtures or guides to help ensure the accuracy of the stamping position.

Perform a test run: Before the stamping, do a test run on a scrap piece of the same material to check if the temperature, pressure, and speed settings are correct. Check if the stamping effect meets the requirements. If not, adjust the settings accordingly.

Start stamping: Once the test run is successful, start the stamping process. Continuously feed the materials into the machine for stamping. During the stamping process, monitor the stamping quality regularly to ensure that each piece is stamped correctly.

Finish and clean up: After the stamping is completed, turn off the machine and let it cool down. Remove the remaining foil roll and clean the stamping head and machine surface to remove any foil residue or dirt. Store the machine properly for future use.
